“Access denied” when printing on Vista client to Vista server

This post explains how to resolve problems when trying to print from a Vista client to a printer attached to a Vista “server” PC that does not require a password to boot, the error “access denied” will appear on the client PC.

To resolve:

  1. Click Start
  2. Click “Control Panel”
  3. Click “User accounts”
  4. Click “Create a password for your account”
  5. Enter temporary password in both boxes, you do not need to type in a password hint.  Click “Create password”
  6. You will be returned to the main “User accounts” screen.  Click “Remove your password”
  7. Close the “User accounts” window.

MAPI32.DLL error when running Outlook 2003 on Windows Vista

Office 2003 works abosultely fine on Windows Vista however, not if have Office 2007 installed along side it.  Regardless of what version of Office 2007 it is whatever you may come across a MAPI32.DLL error when using Outlook 2003 and even uninstalling Office 2007 will not work.

To solve the problem is simple, locate the file MSMAPI32.dll here:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\Msmapi\1033

and either delete it or best practice, rename it to MSMAPI32.dll.old
